When we were tasked with a home that was built with minimal architectural detail, we discovered an opportunity for meaningful improvement. We introduced proportion, materiality, and millwork with character and quality that transformed an outdated space into an intentional, layered design.
THE PRECISE HIERARCHY OF MILLWORK AND FUNCTION
Custom millwork, with varying profiles across the pantry and surrounding cabinets, adds depth and charm. A large island acts as the central gathering point, offering ample room for casual dining, homework, and entertaining.
EXPANSIVE SPACE FILLED WITH NATURAL LIGHT
We reworked the layout as an open great room to improve circulation and functionality. Windows were added along the southern exposure to flood the space with natural light.
A STRONG, WELCOMING STATEMENT
A cozy sitting area with a natural stone fireplace anchors the kitchen. The bold stone surround introduces texture and visual weight, grounding the open plan with a strong architectural focal point.
Custom shelving on either side of the fireplace defines the seating zone just off the kitchen. The space reinforces the room as a multi-use living space, rather than a kitchen alone.
